There’s a neat trick for Autophage staffs. There have been hints and mentions here and there, but no clear tutorial explaining how to reproduce it reliably until now.
You can use this to get lots of alternate color combos for your staffs legitimately, repeatable, and without having to dive into JSON edits.
It best to usually start at the 6 o’clock position for the kiosk, right at the “screen.” The first 2 full assemblies of a staff at this position (or any other position) will give you the kiosk’s default colors.
After 2 full assemblies, returning a head or any other part to your inventory will trigger the alternate color set for that position.

There are two main visual sets for Autophage staffs, grouped by head: •Set 1 – Crystal / Illuminated: Head, Claw, Runic, Radiant •Set 2 – Rustic / No Crystals: Havoc, Concentric, Aerator Only the head pieces really matter. Color changes, tech slots, supercharged slot positions, and class all come from the head. The mid/grip (core) and shaft/bottom pieces are aesthetic and don’t affect stats.
Stand facing at the flat side of the kiosk terminal. Try to be roughly in the center; this is easiest to replicate the colors. Differences in weather, avatar size, or gear may slightly affect results. Refer to my top-down standing position graphic above. Use the graphic as a general guide — exact placement isn’t required, just aim for the center of the flat side
Place a head and the desired core and shaft sections in the assembly slots. Press E to complete the assembly. Return the head (or any part) to your inventory — this triggers the alternate color set for that position. *Remember that the first 2 assemblies at a kiosk position always show the default color set.
Move around the kiosk to approximate 6, 8, 10, 12, 2, and 4 o’clock positions. At each position, assemble a staff and return a head (or any part) to inventory to see the alternate colors. Each position can produce a repeatable alternate color set. Tip: I stick to the flat side positions only because the corners and angled spots are harder to reproduce consistently. -Also, facing the kiosk directly up close has generally been easiest to replicate over and over. -Feel free to experiment with different distances, directions, or angles for even more variations.
Record: Galaxy, planet address, kiosk XY coordinates, staff head, position, class, resulting kiosk default and/or position colors, and optionally, well-positioned supercharged slots. Screenshots are helpful so others can reproduce your results.
Personally, I test all heads at each position to check for A or S class layouts, and preferred supercharged slots, but that’s optional if you’re mainly hunting color combos.
